JoAnn Bowen has been painting for forty years. She graduated
from the Art Center College of Design located in Los Angeles, California in
1972 with a Bachelor of Fine Art. Upon graduation she did freelance work for
Sunset Books, Sullivan Associates Publishing Company and various children’s
magazines. Simultaneously, she continued her focus in watercolor and oil,
whiled privately studying under the tutelage of world-renowned artist,
Elizabeth Mihalyi.
After moving to Utah in 1990, she taught art at two elementary
schools in Bountiful. She continued her education in painting and drawing at
the University of Utah for the next five years, studying with Tony Smith, Paul
Davis, David Dornan and John Erickson. Upon completing every art class offered
by the university, she continued studying with these artists through annual
workshops.
She is a returning artist to Zion’s Bank’s annual exhibit.
She also has participated in shows at the Magpie’s Nest in the Avenues. She
sells her art privately and private collectors have purchased in California,
Georgia, California and Utah.
Her primary media is oil paint. With a strong preference for
landscape and still life, she finds painting from natural settings imperative
for greatest results. Her style is full of color, exuding vibrant, textural
strokes that give life and excitement to the ordinary in life.
